Upanishad, which is a sanskrit origin word. it is the combination of two words "Upa" and "Nishads". Upa whichs means "Nearby" and Nishads means "To sit down".
So, Upanishads mean "To sitting down near". Groups of pupil sit down near to Guru of that period listen to their sayings and thoughts which comes to them with their own experince.
